1952 William Wilkinson, E ’57, MA ’60, recently published Testimonios de Florencio Serrano: Alta California Remembered, 1834-1850 with BookSurge Publishing. The book gives a brief history of the period and a translation of Florencio Serrano’s documents, which are preserved at the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley.
1959 David Clisham, JD ’81, worked as a public school teacher in San Francisco for a number of years before attending the USF School of Law. Clisham is still working and practicing the alto sax in his spare time. John Cunningham, E ’62, has been working with the University of San Diego for 48 years, coaching baseball and/or basketball for 36 of those years. Cunningham was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991 and was inducted into the University of San Diego Hall of Fame in 2003. Cecilia (Sanchez) Kwolek has been married for 49 years and has six children, 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Charles Norton is retired after 25 years with the Marine Corps. Norton is enjoying life and time spent with his children and grandchildren. Bernie Schneider has taught high school English for 35 years in the Bay Area, 20 of which he has served as a varsity basketball coach. Schneider is attempting to write a history of Bay Area men’s basketball. He and his wife, Joan, enjoy cross-country trips to visit their children and grandchildren. Raymond Williamson Jr, JD ’63, is a retired superior court judge. He is part of the Independent Review Board for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. The board handles all matters involving sexual abuse of children and young people by those who serve the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
1960 John Burton is the California Democratic Party chairman.
1963 Dennis Lucey was selected as a Federal 100 awardee by the government information technology community in Washington, D.C. in March. The award recognizes individuals from government, industry, and academia for their contributions to the development, acquisition, or management of federal information technology.
1966 Theodore Napolitano has moved into the health care field as the patient advocate manager for the VA-San Diego Healthcare System, which serves more than 60,000 local veterans. He also serves as a liaison to the many veterans’ support organizations in the community.
1967 Ralph Barbieri celebrated his 25th year with radio station KNBR (680 AM).
1969 Mary Lou Seidl Kinney is a project director with Idaho Area Health Education Center. She has three grandchildren under age 5 and is enjoying life in Idaho with her husband, Dick. James S. Armstrong joined Brown Schroeder & Associates, which provides executive search and institutional advancement services for educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Armstrong has served as a senior development officer at several organizations including USF, Children’s Hospital Oakland Foundation, the Archdiocese of San Francisco, San Francisco State University, and Fort Mason Center.
1970 Peter Barry, E ’71, MA ’78, reached 400 wins during his coaching career and is now retiring after 19 seasons as the coach of the Coast Guard Academy’s men’s basketball team. Michael Carey retired in 2008 after 37 years in public education, including 26 as a school superintendent. Since then he has had two novels published: To the Kings and Heading for Home: A Baseball Odyssey. He also founded one of California’s two vintage baseball (1880s rules) leagues in 2006 and played in the first vintage baseball World Series. Terry Puckett, E ’73, was given an award by the Diocese of Oakland for her dedication to Catholic education. Puckett is currently teaching at Assumption Catholic School in San Leandro.
1971 Suzanne McDonnell Giraudo, EdD ’89, chairs the Independent Review Board for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. The board advises the Archbishop on all matters involving sexual abuse of children and young people by those who serve the Archdiocese of San Francisco.
1972 George Rowan and his band, the Band of Brothers Trio, received a first-place medal at the 27th National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.
1973 Richard Morosi, MA, retired in 2008 after 43 years in secondary education, including 10 years as principal of Westmoor High School in Daly City. In June, Westmoor dedicated the on-campus “Morosi Grove” in Morosi’s honor. Peter Simoncini was selected as the Stanislaus County High School Teacher of the Year for 2009. Mary M. Sullivan was selected as the AADE/LifeScan Diabetes Educator of the Year for 2010. Clare E. Wherley, MBA, was honored as one of the 2009 Women of Achievement by Business and Professional Women of New Jersey.
1976 Chris Elzi, JD ’79, practices law and acts as a trustee and executor. He completed the certificate programs for professional fiduciary management for trustees and professional management for conservators at California State University, Fullerton. Dan Callahan, MBA, retired in 1999 after a career as an executive in the software industry. Callahan primarily worked with startups and early stage venture-funded companies. Since retiring, Callahan has focused on improving his golf game by residing in the Palm Springs area for five months out of the year. He also enjoys spending time with his two granddaughters. Kevin Sweeney is a founder and partner of Sweeney Kovar, a public accounting firm in Danville. The firm is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.
1977 Patricia Frost worked for 23 years at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in staff development and later as a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner. In 2006, Frost joined Contra Costa Emergency Medical Services as quality improvement coordinator and was later promoted to assistant director. Frost is married to Douglas Amis ’71, MA ’75, MA ’77, MA ’79, MA ’80, EdD ’82, president of Amisoco Consulting. Frost and Amis have two daughters and one stepson. Catherine Hong recently had her book, How I Love Thee: The Testimony of a Woman, published. The book is written in English and Chinese.
1978 Roy E. Haney recently published a novel, Yesterday’s Rain: Legend of the Blue Buffalo. The sequel, A Violent Storm, is scheduled to be published next year. He is also the founder and president of Blue Buffalo Publishing Compan. James Smith is on hiatus from work, getting a few books out. His first book, San Francisco’s Lost Landmarks, was published in June 2005. Book number two, The California Snatch Racket, is in the final stages of publication and will be out in spring 2010. A third book, Serious Mischief, has been written and contracted, and Smith just finished writing San Francisco’s Playland at the Beach: The 1920s and 30s. The book showcases 250 photos of Playland’s earlier days.
1979 Robert McNamara is the new CFO at Fremont-based Purfresh Inc., a provider of clean, green, and sustainable technologies for food and water. McNamara lives with his wife and two sons in Menlo Park. John Devencenzi, who recently moved to Bend, Ore. from the Bay Area, manages sales for a software company specializing in call recording and speech recognition. He and his wife, a registered nurse and part-time horse trainer, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in November. The couple has three grown children; the youngest recently graduated from Oregon State University. 
1980 Reyes Montiel, EdD, served as the academic vice president of the University Cecilio Acosta in Maracaibo, Venezuela from 1983-1988, then as president from 1988-1998. Additionally he was a signatory for the Act of the European Universities. He is now president of the Arturo Michelena University in Valencia, Venezuela.
1982 Jann Fitzgerald formed RapidRenu, a San Francisco-based company that removes graffiti and vandalism from glass using a newly patented method. Frank S. Hiscox, JD, is a partner in the intellectual property practice group at Lewis and Roca LLP’s Mountain View office. Hiscox focuses on global brand management for companies in Silicon Valley and throughout the world. Castro Valley science teacher Charles Reynes received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Teaching. In 2006, Reynes was named Alameda County Teacher of the Year and in 2007 he was honored as one of California’s Teachers of the Year.
1983 Enomwoyi B. Booker, MSA, is in her third year as principal of P.L.A.C.E. (Preparatory Literary Academy of Cultural Excellence) at Prescott Elementary School in west Oakland. Lawrence M. Counen, MBA, welcomed a new golden retriever puppy, Chewbacca, last December.

Matthew McCarron, MS ’95, recently moved from the State Integrated Waste Management Board, working on the electronics recycling program, to the State Department of Toxic Substances Control in Berkeley to expand the Green Business Certification program statewide. 1986 Bette Beechen Epstein, JD, is managing partner of the Oakland office of Reed Smith LLP and was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area’s most influential businesswomen.
1987 Frank Dean, MPA, became interim superintendent of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Kenneth G. Winans, MBA, received top honors in the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards with his latest book, Investment Atlas. He also recently joined the board of trustees of the Museum of American Finance in New York City.
1988 Avi Crane is the founder and chief executive of Prime Produce International, a fast-growing avocado distributor. Ernest K. Jones is a middle school teacher at Eel River Charter School in Covelo. Susan Smartt, MPA, is president and CEO of NatureBridge and was recognized as one of the Bay Area’s most influential businesswomen by the San Francisco Business Times. John Murray’s daughter, Sabrina Michelle, was born in December 2008. Murray is a major account executive for Astro Business Technologies.

1990 Elisse Johnson Floyd, MA, has been practicing since 1995 as a licensed marital and family therapist in Sacramento. She is also a part-time adjunct professor of human service/psychology at American River College. Barbara Kaufman is director of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s San Francisco/Bay Area regional office and was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the most influential businesswomen in the Bay Area. Elinor MacKinnon is senior vice president and chief information officer of Blue Shield of California and was recognized as one of the Bay Area’s most influential businesswomen by the San Francisco Business Times. Cynthia Schrock Seley received her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1999. She was installed as president of the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York in June. Rosalinda Turner, MA ’98, is the director of USF’s North Bay campus in Santa Rosa.
1991 Richard Jonsen, MHR, joined the business department faculty at Eastern University in September. He concluded a 12-year career with Johnson & Johnson, where he was most recently director of talent acquisition for its U.S. pharmaceutical companies. Roger Lim is finishing production on the third feature film of his AmerAsian Trilogy. His first film will soon be shipped to film festivals worldwide. Austin Newberry, MAS, is a senior court analyst II for the Florida Supreme Court and an adjunct professor of religious studies at Thomas University. Peter Saari became a director at PricewaterhouseCoopers in June.
1992 Andrew E. Sweet, JD, was appointed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to the Marin County Superior Court. Michelle G. Zachlod, EdD, was awarded the designation of associate professor of teacher education, emeritus, at California State University, Bakersfield’s 2009 commencement.
1993 Harald Becker, MBA, is currently a senior business strategist at Microsoft Office Labs/Envisioning Group. Joanne Chow married Larry Wong in 2001 and gave birth to son Nicholas Wong in 2008. She is currently a full-time mom at home. Michael Smith serves as the spa director for Madara Spa Wailea in Maui, Hawaii.
1995 Angela McConnell, MNA, is the new executive director for the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga. Afaq Mufti, MBA, works in project and export finance with Standard Chartered Bank in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
1996 Kristina Menzel, JD, is a senior attorney with the Cook County Public Defenders Office, Juvenile Justice Division in Chicago. She is living in the city with her two cats and one dog, all rescues. Steven M. Thompson, MBA, has worked with Aspect Communications and Autodesk in various executive positions in sales, marketing, and services. In 2003, he co-founded Litigation Media Group, LLC, a multimedia litigation technology and consultancy firm headquartered in San Jose.
1997 Lynna Do, MPA ’03, is currently working on her doctorate in clinical psychology. She had an essay published in the book She’s Out There: Essays by 35 Young Women Who Aspire to Lead the Nation: The Next Generation of Presidential Candidates. Brian Philip, JD ’03, and his wife, Bridget, welcomed their second daughter, Olivia Ruth Philip, in March. Philip is a property crimes detective and SWAT officer with a Bay Area law enforcement agency. He and his wife enjoy living in the Bay Area with their two daughters, Sabrina and Olivia.
1998 Niall Adler is assistant media relations director at Stanford University. He handles publicity for baseball, football, and swimming. David J. Canepa, Jr. is a newly elected Daly City councilman. Rose Castillo Guilbault, MA, vice president of corporate affairs for AAA Northern California, Nevada, and Utah, was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the Bay Area’s most influential businesswomen. Monica Dittrich is a licensed marriage and family therapist, specializing in women’s issues. She also works with children on issues such as school challenges and blended families. Dittrich recently opened a private practice in San Jose.
1999 James Adams, MPA, has been the chief executive officer of Reach Air Medical Services since 2001. Amy Van Prooyen Greenfield, JD, was honored by the University of Utah’s College of Humanities as a distinguished alumna. She started a successful crisis and litigation communications firm in New York and San Francisco in 2003 with fellow UU and USF graduate Lori Teranishi, MBA ’02. The firm was recently awarded top honors by PR News in the 2009 Legal PR Awards. David Gudelunas was promoted to associate professor of communication, with tenure, at Fairfield University. He currently lives in Manhattan. Malia King is a licensed acupuncturist with a master’s degree in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. She sees patients in her San Francisco office. Mary Lafayette, MA, is a personal shopper, fashion stylist, and owner of Fashion Luv Joenz, an image consulting, styling, and custom design firm. Robert Lobron, MBA, has been promoted to executive director of NFS Financial. Michael J. Quigley has been appointed to a special commission of the U.S. Senate Select Committee for Intelligence, charged with investigating the CIA interrogation program. He is a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and will be joining the committee following his assignment as assistant naval attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Brussels, Belgium.
2000 Kate Bueler had a chapter based on her master’s thesis, examining the role of social class and family in college students’ persistence to graduate, recently published in Our Promise: Achieving Educational Equality for America’s Children.
2001 Peter M. Berghan owns and operates Gifford Hirlinger, a small vineyard and winery in Walla Walla, Wash. Brianna Chesser is an online advocacy coordinator for Turn.org, a nonprofit advocating for lower bills and a liveable planet. She is responsible for online messaging and activism, and she enjoys the public policy, advocacy, and social justice aspects of her job. Laura Reed is working as an assistant in the research department for Dodge & Cox Funds.
2002 Vikki Atkinson, MA, EdD ’07, currently lives in Cambridge, England. She is doing course writing for the Open University in addition to lecturing for three courses and also doing some consultancy work. She and her husband are preparing to do volunteer work in education and technology with the Teacher Education in Sub-Saharan Africa program. Cris Chater, MNA, is executive director of San Rafael’s Senior Access. She is credited with saving the senior care center from being closed. Cassaundra Ellena, MPA ’04, has been appointed redevelopment manager for the Sonoma County Community Redevelopment Agency.
2004 Alicia Augsburger graduated from Marquette University Law School and was sworn in as an attorney by the Wisconsin Supreme Court in May 2008. Anna Childs has been working for Geroge W. Grivin Associates, Inc., a landscape architecture firm, since graduation. Childs married in 2006 and gave birth to her son, Danny, in July 2007. She and her family live in Carpinteria. Frozan Faizi is applying for graduate school in museum studies and currently has a part-time job at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Linda Childs Hothem, MHR, CEO of Pacific American Group LCC and senior adviser for the Matson Global advisory council, was recognized as one of the Bay Area’s most influential businesswomen by the San Francisco Business Times. Chelsea Pegram is living in Oakland and has been actively building her portfolio as a sculptor/installation artist with regular exhibitions in the Bay Area.
2005 Adelita Candelaria recently opened Night Gallery with her partner in Portland. The gallery is a cinema fine art salon. Chad Kipfer is the co-owner of Big Umbrella Studios in San Francisco with Therese Agnew ’09. Elisabeth Lemon is entering UC Berkeley to pursue a master’s degree in developmental teacher education. Heather Leutwyler, MSN, after completing her doctorate in nursing at UCSF in May, began a tenure track faculty position at UCSF in the department of physiological nursing. Heather Lum works in development at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco. She is completing her master’s degree from USF in nonprofit organization management. Victoria R. Manley, MS, was named script supervisor and legal coordinator for “Cars 2,” slated for a June 2011 release by Pixar Animation Studios. She just recently finished working on “Up,” for which she was an assistant to the directors. Laura Parker works at the Andrea Schwartz Gallery in San Francisco, after a rewarding position at Frey Norris Gallery. Edbert J. Quintanilla is the human resources officer for the Guam Public Defender Service Corporation. Vicky Yee, MS, was named the new director of human resources and administration for the San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau.
2006 Megan Cayler is working in San Francisco as a development associate for the Women’s Funding Network. Catherine Choi held her first post-college position at Naylor and Chu, an architecture and design firm in San Francisco. Recently she was hired as a project coordinator in the department of visitor interpretive programs at the newly redesigned California Academy of Sciences. Emily Compagno, JD, is a criminal defense lawyer with a firm south of San Francisco. She is also a Raiderette, a cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders. Stephanie Dudzinski chose to pursue graduate study in the field of art business at Sotheby’s Institute in London. She is currently working at Paradise Row Gallery and in public relations at the Phillips de Pury & Company’s London office. Peter Flores had a successful run in his first post-graduate position at Christie’s auction house in New York, and was recently promoted to a higher-level position at a competing New York auction house, Phillips de Pury & Company, where he is administrator of contemporary art. Edith Mondragon works in Culver City for Beyond the Marketing as gallery manager for Scion Installation LA, a nonprofit sponsored by Scion. The gallery supports independent expression among urban graffiti and other fine artists. Mondragon has shown her own work in many group shows and had her first solo exhibition at Gallery Azul in San Pedro. Mara Stringfield left her position with Christie’s Fine Art Auctioneers Los Angeles office to work as a grant writer at Father Joe’s Villages in San Diego. She is also completing a master’s degree in writing, with an emphasis in art history.
2007 Elizabeth Cahill recently returned to San Francisco after a year of teaching English in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Katrina Dahlhausen works at Catherine Clark Gallery in San Francisco. Joy Jacobs chose to pursue graduate study in the field of art business at Sotheby’s Institute in London. Jennifer Hennessey has been working with the San Francisco Police Department since her graduation in 2007. Because Hennessey entered the San Francisco Police Academy (SFPA) one week before graduation, she was not able to accept her degree on stage with the rest of her class. After completeing her training with the SFPA, Hennessey was pinned by her father with the police star that he wore for 34 years before retiring. Today she is assigned to Northern Station, which patrols the Fillmore and Western Addition, after working in the Tenderloin and Bayview-Hunters Point. Agustin Maes, MA, was awarded the 2009-10 Image Milton Center Post-graduate Fellowship. The nine-month fellowship is awarded each year to a writer of poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction. During his time at the center, Maes will work on a collection of short stories, teach courses at Seattle Pacific University, and share in the ongoing work of Image, a literary and arts quarterly founded in 1989. Corinna Matesich is working at the San Francisco Arts Commission, assisting with its cultural equity grants. Ashley Pintek is applying to graduate school in the field of art conservation after a successful year interning in the Objects Conservation Laboratory at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. Jessica Robinson is a contestant in the 2010 Miss California pageant. Ella Rollandi is working at the Franklin-Bowles Gallery in San Francisco, where she is an assistant to the gallery vice president, USF Professor Jean Audigier. Ashley Ruane has been promoted from experienced associate to senior associate with Macias Gini & O’Conell LLP, a statewide certified public accounting, management consulting, and personnel services firm.
2008 Kathleen Miskel Barber, MA, has been the training director at the San Mateo Joint Apprenticeship and Training Center in San Carlos since 2002. She was recognized by the San Mateo County Times for her pursuit of education. Katie Van Bogaert is working as a personal trainer for Club One at Santana Row in San Jose and at the Jewish Community Center in Los Gatos. Jessica (Vodak) Jordan, MNA ’08, works as the director of annual and special giving for the University of San Francisco. She was recently married to Tom Jordan. Kristen Jones is working as an Army nurse at Tripler Army Medical Center. The unit she is assigned to handles OB/GYN surgeries, antepartum, and mother-baby overflow. Jones attended the AMEDD Officer Leaders Course in 2008 at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, and received her trauma nursing core course certification. Miracle McClain will be joining the Coro Fellows Program in Los Angeles. The program trains fellows for leadership in the public affairs arena. Meghan McGowan, MAT ’09, is in her fifth year at USF, pursuing her dual degree in teacher education from the School of Education. Sarah Miley has joined the Jesuit Volunteer Corps (JVC) Northwest for a year of full-time volunteer service. Miley is one of 123 volunteers to embark on this year-long journey of service. The JVC is a nonprofit volunteer organization that recruits, places, and supports men and women who are looking to live out the values of community, social justice, simple living, and spirituality.
