This study emphasizes local Chinese churches and aims to provide a more balanced portrayal of the historical actors involved, recognizing that the indigenized church is an integral part of the history of Christianity in China. This volume is the result of a two-year project initiated in 2002 by the Center for the Study of East-West Cultural Exchange at Central China Normal University and the USF Ricci Institute.
