The Classical Salon
Saturday, 8 - 11 pm
Classical music lives on the airwaves at KUSF. Music from the 18th to the 21st century is featured on The Classical Salon, Saturdays, 8-11 pm. Although the term 'classical music' is an imprecise classification of art music from the period, it is used here to include the range of music extending from the traditional approaches of writing for the concert hall, to art music meant for specialized audiences, and to experimental, independent-thinking composers whose output does not fill the typical record catalogs.
The occasional interview and live performance on The Classical Salon add a personal touch to the radio experience.
David Reffkin, producer and host of The Classical Salon has been presenting classical programing on Saturday nights at KUSF since 1982. His Monday night show, The Ragtime Machine, is the only program of its type in the country, airing since 1981. David's expertise and experience as a full-time musician bring a uniquely knowledgeable and insightful approach to classical music on the radio. Co-hosts add a variety of points of view and music.
