I think the company I work for may have a "Matching Grants" program, should I try to get my company to match my donation to KUSF?
Yes, absolutely. Many companies (not only corporate giants) provide funds to match charitable donations made by their employees to non-profit organizations such as KUSF. You may be surprised to learn that revenues generated from matching grant programs provide a significant portion of KUSF's annual revenue. Please contact your employer's Human Resources Department for more information regarding matching grant programs. Participation usually only requires filling out a single form. Help corporate America help non-commercial KUSF. (See list of employers who will match your donation in the left column.)
Air Time & Businesses
KUSF 90.3 FM offers you possibilities that traditional advertising cannot especially in an economically challenged era in which the competition has never been fiercer; we offer a viable alternative to the exorbitant prices of conventional advertising, which tend not to produce the positive results you are paying for.
"The attraction is mutual. Corporations love to advertise on public radio, which owns perhaps the most cherished demographic around: well-educated, upper-middle-class listeners who have expensive tastes and the money to indulge them. Moreover, they trust public radio much more than other listeners trust commercial radio, as sentiment borne out in listener surveys." Washington Post
$25 per Aired Spot
KUSF's operating costs are so economical primarily due to the efforts of the dedicated volunteer staff, so we are able to pass this benefit on to you. These costs are significantly less than other non-profit stations and dramatically lower than commercial stations there is NO PROFIT motive here.
Positive Branding
In becoming an underwriter, your entity is allowed the great opportunity to be associated with supporting quality & diverse programming provided by KUSF to this community and beyond (our internet streaming reaches all over the world).
Untapped Opportunity
The traditional way of enlightening people to what you have to offer is becoming less effective. A new approach is needed and KUSF offers an alternative that has proven successful for our underwriters. Not only have we increased our sponsors but have maintained our established partnerships that we currently have it MUST be WORKING.
Focused Demographics
Due to the wide range of programming, many times we can pinpoint the audience you seek.
Tax Benefit
Since KUSF is a non-profit radio station, the funds given are considered a donation, which allows some to take advantage of a break rather than limiting the money to be categorized as advertising expenses.
Be Heard Not Ignored
Many stations stack their sponsored spots in large blocks that can run up to 17 minutes per hour, in which listeners "tune-out." Your spot is highlighted with no or minimal sandwiching. Therefore, your message is clearly heard and not lost in the crowd.
Viable Resource
With the decline in popularity that some other stations are experiencing, KUSF offers established and unique programming that is outside of the cookie-cutter formats. We are a service and resource to the community, and with our streaming capabilities, we reach all over the entire world, as our award winning reputation precedes us.
Support
KUSF has served the San Francisco area for over 30 years. Not only are we committed to using sound and ideas to creatively engage the intelligence, curiosity and imagination of our listeners by offering a vast array of programming, but we also work very closely with many non-profit organizations enlightening listeners to their endeavors. KUSF's eclectic programming includes specialty music, how-to shows, foreign language, faith-based programs, various lifestyle shows and much more. The University of San Francisco only partially funds our expenses, thus we rely on the support received from appreciative listeners and donors. KUSF does not force our listeners to be subjected to tedious and lengthy pledge drives, auctions or similar detritus. Your donations go a long way in keeping free form radio alive for your community.
KUSF is in need of funds for new equipment that will replace some of the 50 year old technology that we are currently using.
Also needed are spare parts, supplies and back-up equipment that will allow us to quickly remedy unforeseen malfunctions and failures. KUSF also needs funding to maintain and preserve our historical archives... and the list goes on.
There are several options available to become an underwriter:
Continuing Sponsorship
There are underwriters that have favorite shows or seek the demographic that one program may offer. Most programs air once a week, with some exceptions. In these cases one spot may be aired during the weekly broadcast of that show. If a particular show runs longer that an hour, some sponsors like to take advantage and air several spots per show. $25 per spot is the flat rate and since KUSF bills on a quarterly basis (13 weeks = 13 shows) the total amount for this would be $325 ($25 x 13 = $325) per quarter.
One Lump Sum
For those that have a time sensitive event or must keep within a specific budget, we can spread the air spots throughout various programs that will best suit the needs for a desired result. For example, for those with $1000, we can offer 40 aired spots during a specified window of opportunity.
General Donor
We have had donors who have either specified how the donation is allocated (ie: for equipment or to a particular program) and/or that would like to remain anonymous.
I am happy to go over all the options and give guidance to what will provide the maximum results to suit your needs. In closing, I thank you for your consideration in supporting the community. Please feel free to contact me if you should have any questions or would like to set an appointment to discuss this opportunity further.
Cheers,
