Latinas
Unidas was founded in the Spring of 1999 by a group of Latina
students at the University of San Francisco. Latinas
Unidas was originally intended to be a Latina sorority, but has
been very successful as a club by promoting sisterhood. Through hard work and
determination the members of Latinas Unidas
have managed to keep the club alive. Latinas Unidas
has now been a club for five years and is growing more every year.

A central focus for the women of Latinas
Unidas is philanthropy. The club sponsors and/or participates in
at least one community service event per month. In the past these events have
included the Breast Cancer Walk for the American Breast Cancer Society and
also the University of San Francisco Bienvenidos overnight retreat, where club
members hosted Latina high school juniors from various bay area high schools
to spend a day and night at the University. Plans for next year include
travel to Tijuana, Mexico to participate in an immersion program called Los Niños. In Tijuana, the women of Latinas
Unidas assisted in various community-driven projects that
enhanced local schools and community centers.
