    What We're About

    "Vocalize to the Beat"

It so happens with a lot of radio stations that music is not the case; that as long as there's enough listeners tuned in, then that's all to it. But obviously, what is radio without good music? We want our tunes here and there but above all, we want the station to play substantial ear treats that's actually worth our time.

We're all about free expression (within the boundaries of regulation and protocol of course). We don't discriminate against any type of musical genre or show interests unless it crosses some line.

    What We Do

KDNZ is the University of San Francisco's student-run and -programmed radio station. A sponsored ASUSF club, KDNZ offers internet radio broadcast spaces and free DJ lessons to all USF students. KDNZ provides service to the USF student community by providing free DJ services for all ASUSF clubs.

    History

USF's second-oldest club (after the College Players Theater Company), KDNZ has gone through numerous changes throughout its history. KDNZ started in 1963 as KUSF, managed in its early years by then-undergraduate and now-USF Professor and KUSF General Manager Steve Runyon. KDNZ was opened following the dream of the late Fr. Spieler, SJ, whose plans detailing the creation of a student-run and -programmed station were left temporarily unrealized by his death some 15 years prior to the founding of the current KUSF FM. KDNZ operated under call letters KDNS and then KDNZ, broadcasting on AM and then FM radio until the 1990s.

KDNZ continues to serve the USF and greater San Francisco community by broadcasting service announcements for ASUSF Clubs and area businesses over a live internet radio broadcast from its studio in Phelan Hall at USF. KDNZ has also expanded to provide live DJ entertainment for club activities and events. Including those with no experience, all USF students are welcome to become involved with KDNZ and are invited to join in the realization of USF's student voice!
